ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT CAN BE SOUGHT FOR HELP WITH PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS, EMOTIONAL DISTRESS AND MENTAL HEALTH.

I started my training in Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Institut du Qimetao in Paris, learning the TCM principals and the practice of Qigong, for 2 years. My fascination with the vast knowledge that Chinese medicine holds and its holistic approach, led me to further my studies, for an other 3 years at the School of 5 Element Acupuncture in London where my particular interest regarding the interaction between body mind and spirit was addressed. This has allowed me to work, with Mental, Emotional distress as well as Physical symptoms with patients.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU COME FOR TREATMENT ?

CONSULTATION,
You will have the opportunity to discuss your current health issues, emotional well being, medical history, past and current medication.
It is important for me to gather through our conversation, a holistic picture of yourself. This will allow me to determine the most appropriate treatment for you.

This examination also comprises a short Physical traditional assessment consisting of taking the person`s pulse on both wrists, checking for any abdominal tenderness, measurement of the energetic balance between the right and left side of the body.
I also check the patient`s blood pressure as this will determine if I use moxibustion with the treatment.

1ST TREATMENT:
Very often it consists of a very superficial needling on different acupuncture points on your back. This is a test as well as a treatment and will reveal if there is a particular form of energy that has become polluted and needs to be gotten rid of. This treatment will allow for this clearing to happen. As this polluted energy clears, the redness around the needles disappears.
I then start working on a specific treatment in relation with the element in you that needs support.

FOLLOW UP SESSIONS:
Although there may be instant relief with a first treatment, acupuncture treats the underlying cause of a disease or dysfunction, it may take a few sessions before you can appreciate the progress taking place. It usually takes a few treatments to "anchor" the positive changes within your body.
As every one is unique and responds differently to treatment, there is no specific rule to how many treatments are required. Sometimes the effects are quite dramatic and only 2 or 3 treatments are needed, while some people may need treatment over several months. It is also usually a good idea once the symptoms are gone to come for a visit once every few months in order to maintain an optimum level of health.
THE FIRST SESSION TAKES 2 HOURS.
FOLLOW UP SESSION USUALLY LAST 1 HOUR.

If you wish to see me before committing to a course of treatment, you are very welcome to book a free 15 to 30 minutes informal visit, where you can see the clinic and ask me any questions regarding treatment that you may have.

Experiences of Acupuncture from the patients perspective, a few testimonials:

"I had alway thought about trying acupuncture. However, it was the experience of a colleague who had been helped following a nasty bout of pneumonia that convinced me to try. I was cautious because of fear of needles. I spoke to Sylvie during my initial consultation but I mentioned nothing of this. Her gentle exploration of my reasons for consulting her began to ally this fear. I was aware of her thoroughness and skill during the first treatment and this seemed to make any fear disappear.
My reasons for consulting her were post-pneumonia conditions, chronic and long term stiffness and frequent pain in my lower and upper back, and a concern that my immune system was low. After relatively few treatment sessions she had succeeded where osteopaths and others had been less successful.
I thoroughly recommend this woman for her approach to her patient and the obvious experience and skill she has for this work.

"It was like a turning point in my life and I can never thank you enough for all that you have done for me.
Your treatments have given me some valuable insights into my depression and wonderful times of respite from it. It is as if your treatments take me "home"to that other place where there is no pain, no suffering, only joy, peace and light, where there is a sense of "oneness" and "wholeness", and where it is just fine to be me. In that place, there is no effort, I can just be. So your treatments take me to heaven and I can stay there for a little while afterwards. How amazing!
They give me hope, strength to continue on what sometimes seems like a hard path to travel. Of course I am describing what 5 element Acupuncture does for me but it is you that insert the needles!
I think it would be wonderful if everyone could experience the type of treatments you offer. Perhaps as one`s awareness increases, it is possible to manifest heaven on earth as the mystics suggest." Beth G.

"I suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and all attempts to reverse it had failed. It slowly got worse and worse. I was recommended to try acupuncture by my local complementary medicine centre, and it was Sylvie who treated me. Not only did I start to feel much better as soon as the treatment started, I also felt much better about myself. The problem is much better, and is entirely due to Sylvie`s ongoing treatment. She succeeded where everyone else failed." Stuart R.

"After living with IBS for 5 years, I came across acupuncture whilst researching on the internet. Medicines and changing my diet had not greatly helped and I was desperate to feel comfortable and not suffer anxiety when going out(as to whether I would be well or not). From the first session Sylvie put me at ease and we chatted about my symptoms and life in general. Sylvie then placed some needles in my back. This was not painful. I can best describe it as a pinching sensation, but mostly I did not feel it at all. It was also strangely relaxing. After the first 2 sessions I did not feel any different but I urge you to persevere. I have now had 4 sessions with Sylvie & my day to day life has significantly improved. I do not worry about eating out or visiting new places, where I cannot get home quickly and I feel much better in general.
Although I have felt my old symptoms on 1 or 2 occasions, they were reduced and I hope to continue with acupuncture in the future" Elizabeth

A few insights on Acupuncture from the practitioner`s perspective:

China and other eastern countries have been using acupuncture for a few thousand years.
Having had such a long history it has undergone many changes and continues to develop to this day.

Acupuncture studies and follows the laws of nature. It is as simple and yet complex in its diagnosis and treatment as they are.

The holistic approach to treatment is perhaps the most important aspect within the practice of acupuncture and it shares that concept with other disciplines of alternative medicine.
To an Acupuncturist there isn`t one treatment for one illness or for similar symptoms. Each patient is treated individually taking into consideration the root cause of the disorder for that patient, according to the 5 element approach.

Chinese medicine has a view of the human being as comprehending all of the elements: fire, earth, metal, water, wood.
It has particular diagnostic tools, to assess which of the elements and its related organs, need treating.
Chinese medicine helps a person heal themselves.
It is through the gentle stimulation of the carefully selected points that a person becomes able to recover their health. This health that has become compromised due to external and internal disharmony.

As you start with treatment, it is useful to remember that the practitioner treats the underlying cause of symptoms to bring you back to health and although there may be instant relief it is important to understand that it may take a few sessions before you can feel the changes taking place. I will review in each session how you have been, and how the treatment is working for you, keeping a very close eye on your well-being and progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

IS ACUPUNCTURE THE RIGHT TREATMENT FOR ME ?
The aim of Treatment is to restore health and balance, and in a greater sense give you back power over your destiny.
As well as treatment it may well be necessary for you to make some changes to your life style, in order to recover your health. This may be to do with your diet, the amount of water you drink, the amount of alcohol etc...
There may also be times when western medicine may be necessary for you; acupuncture can then be used as a complementary medicine.

CAN THERE BE A RISK OF INFECTION WITH ACUPUNCTURE ?
All needles used are new and sterile and for single use only.
The practitioner observes a strict code of practice when needling.

DOES ACUPUNCTURE HURT?
The needles used are very fine, therefore the needling experience is nothing like that of hypodermic needles. People`s experiences of acupuncture needling can be described as a sharp or dull pinch or sometimes as a tingling sensation.

HOW MANY TIMES WILL I NEED TO COME FOR TREATMENT ?
The practitioner treats the underlying cause of symptoms to bring you back to health. Although there may be instant relief it is important to understand that in some cases it may take a few sessions before you can appreciate the progress taking place.
Many people continue to visit their practitioner on a regular but less frequent basis in order to maintain an optimum level of health.

I AM TAKING MEDICATION, CAN I STILL COME FOR TREATMENT ?
Yes, acupuncture is a complementary therapy and won`t interfere with the effect of medication.
